Yuna Chang
Independent researcher of a constellation of subjects spanning climate change, ecological justice, intergenerational movements and time travelling imaginaries. Exploring through words, cloth and collective making.
Based in London, born in Seoul. With 8 years of experience in political journalism and climate change research, my work has been featured in CNN, BBC, The i Paper, Politico, The Economist, Skin Deep, Vittles, etc.
Research & Writing - Corporate accountability, climate policy & lobbying, climate justice & food sovereignty.
With a background in journalism and corporate accountability research, I combine skills in empirical data handling with strong frameworks on justice and equity.
Artistic practice & Workshops - I explore topics of climate justice & collective liberation through the physical act of making and crafting. I am particularly interested in what is created when we make together - I create and host spaces for this including community banner making sessions and zine workshops.
Through making, we get to know our own ability to transform imagination into reality. Through making together, we feel what it is to collectively build new worlds.
Recent research.
I conducted analysis of 30 years of data on extreme weather disasters from the U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). My research found that weather-related disasters are becoming more frequent in the U.S., with almost half of the American population living under a disaster declaration at some point in 2024.

Climate Disasters in the U.S.
I conducted research on extreme heat in the world’s 20 largest capital cities. My analysis shows that the world’s biggest capital cities have experienced a 52% increase in the number of days reaching 35°C over the past three decades.
This project was delivered for IIED in 2024. 2025 update coming soon.
